we are living in minnesota.but, seems we may have to move to some other state, bcoz,of unavailibility of projects for my husband.my little Roudrabh is a possible VEPTR kid.Dr. Leudtke in Gillette is working with him.beside,we had paid a visit in Mayo clinic,Rochester.
If,we really have to move, his I'll have to start again with good spine doctors.
I just know Shriner,Philadelphia.
so,it would be very helpfull,if you moms can give me a state/city wise list.I need to do some homework before taking the decesion of moving out.

thanks
Nabanita.

Nabanita,

I'm sorry to hear you may need to re-locate your family.  The economy right now is not very family-friendly.  What I CAN tell you is that basically, anywhere you move to will have access to a good VEPTR/spine surgery for Roudrabh.  I live in Utah.  Salt Lake City is a great place for spine kids.  What line of work is your hubby looking for?  Maybe someone can offer suggestions?  Best wishes to your family.

Well, SLC Shriners goes to Phoenix at least once a month (outreach clinic).  You could travel from Phoenix to SLC (1.5 hrs by plane or 15 hours by car) for care.  They do have a children's hospital.  I also think Dr. Segal transfered there from Hershey, PA.  Does anyone know if he's there?  Or if I dreamed that part?  Dr. Segal is the only spine specialist who has extensive experience in that area, if he's there.  Hopefully the Phoenix area is getting better care for kids with spine issues.  Los Angeles is only 6 hours by car from Phoenix.  There are a few good ped. orthos in the southern CA area.  You do have options, I'm sure.  Again, good luck.

LAST I KNEW, DR. SEGAL WAS IN PHOENIX...

GOD BLESS, AND BEST OF LUCK...
NOT THAT WE HAD TO MOVE, BUT OUR FAMILY WAS THROWN INTO A TERRIBLE DELIMA 2 YEARS AGO WHEN MY HUSBANDS HEALTH MADE HIM RETIRE 10 YEARS BEFORE WE HAD PLANNED...YIKES!!!
ODDLY ENOUGH THOUGH, SOMEHOW EVERYTHING WORKS OUT FOR THE BEST ...
HANG IN THERE, AND KEEP THE FAITH...

GOD BLESS...

We live in Texas and there are a couple of places doing VEPTR, so I here. We go to San Antonio for surgery which is about a 6 hr. drive for us. We love the San Antonio facility. The economy is still doing pretty well in Texas compared to some of the other states. I wish you the best of luck on making a descision.

Dr. Segal is in Phoenix. He is wonderful! Sarah was very blessed to have him when he was here in Hershey PA. Sarah now goes to Philly to see Dr.Flynn. We like him. He is very compassionate. Take care and God Bless

Nabanita,

Caroline is one patient who has VEPTR surgery in Atlanta.  I think her surgeon is Dr. Devito (sp?).  I'm sure her mom can help with Atlanta information.

Carter sees Dr. Segal. He has not had the veptr surgery yet, and is only 6 1/2 months old, but I feel comfortable with him. We are at Phx. Children's hospital.

We live in South Carolina, and the only Doctor here who does the VEPTR surgeries is in Columbia. His name is Fred Piehl. He is great, and we really like the hospital our daughter stays in while having surgery. So if you are looking for a sunny and warm climate come on down to SC. Columbia is about 2 and a half hours from the beach, and about 2 and a half hours from the mountains too!

In florida (Orlando) is Dr, Woo he has been at the shuns hospital in Gainsville doing the VEPTR up there! he moved to orlando i think to expand the program because he had a meeting to get the VEPTR program approved with in days of coming to orlando! he will be doing Logans surgery! which i will have a date officially by the end of the week! the nurse said the surgery will be around Dec 6th but Dr.Woo will have logan admitted a week prior to surgery so that he can have his team of specialist watch over logan to make sure he can stand surgery!
