Member Posts: 23 | Myles is almost 3 weeks post op from his first implant surgery. He has been doing great! We had him off his pain medicine completely. Last night he started rubbing his back and whining. This morning he was definitely in a lot more pain than he had been. The base of his long rod is attached with 2 hooks and has always been very close to the skin. The "bump" seemed to be a little more prominent than it had been. I think it is causing him pain pushing against his skin which it wasn't previously. Has anyone has experience with rod migration this soon after surgery? He hasn't to my knowledge had a big fall. Or could it be that all his activity (which is high) has finally caught up with him and his skin is just getting raw from all the walking, squatting, playing that he has been doing. Brenda

Member Posts: 23 | So what happens if it's rod migration? Surgery right away? Man I wish there was someone who does this stuff in Indiana!

Member Posts: 21 Location: Bruehl, Germany | My husband and I noticed a more prominent bump about 6 weeks post op - timely, as it was just before the checkup! - and worried about migration and breakage. But the doctor told us that the bump often becomes more noticeable after a few weeks as residual swelling of the tissues goes down. However, in Julian's case there were no pain issues to go with it.

Member Posts: 23 | Thank you for the input. X rays showed no change in position of rods which is great. He just needs to gain weight and we have to pad the area and hope for no skin erosion. Any suggestions as to how to keep that from happening?

Elite Veteran Posts: 971 Location: nixa mo | see if you can get a soft foam donut like they use in surgery if not I have made an O shaped donut out of 1" craft foam to position around the protrusion
